Hardened Armour
When I look at your face
As I read my poems
Your eyes remain stoic
So long I imagined it having no impact.
Had I failed as a storyteller?
But hiding behind your hardened features
In in the blink of an eye
I saw it
Your looks, like stone,
Became as heavy as the experiences I recited.
With each breath, your heart hardened
To resemble the armour around mine.
As I read my poems
Your eyes remain stoic
So long I imagined it having no impact.
Had I failed as a storyteller?
But hiding behind your hardened features
In in the blink of an eye
I saw it
Your looks, like stone,
Became as heavy as the experiences I recited.
With each breath, your heart hardened
To resemble the armour around mine.
